It is important to undergo regular dental checks to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. You should have a regular dental visit at least every six months to ensure we're cleaning your teeth and checking for any potential problems.
When you visit Pheasant Ridge Dental for a regular check-up, you'll undergo an examination, as well as a cleaning, or oral prophylaxis. We may take x-rays to detect cavities between your teeth. We'll also check your teeth for plaque, which is a clear, sticky layer of bacteria that if not removed, can harden and become tartar. You cannot remove tartar with brushing and flossing. If plaque and tartar build up on your teeth, they can cause oral diseases. We remove plaque and tartar through a process called scaling. Finally, we polish your teeth and floss.
Another important aspect of the examination will be using a special tool to measure the depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums. If you have any signs of gum disease we'll advise you on treatment options. Lastly, we'll also conduct a careful examination of your tongue, throat, face, head, and neck to look for any issues, such as swelling, redness, or possible signs of cancer.
